A Sunday playlist: Claude François, what my mom listened to and introduced me to when I was young
A Sunday watch: Music and Lyrics (2007), the movie I watched on the plane
I’m currently in Switzerland visiting my family,
9 hours in the future from LA.
I haven’t been back to Switzerland (or Europe) in 17 years. My Nonna is celebrating her 85th birthday and my parents, sister, and brother are all here with the rest of my family to celebrate. I’m staying in the village my Nonno grew up in, and where we lived for a short while. So, this Sunday, I share with you some photos I’ve taken so far.

Something I’m thinking about:
I’m thinking a lot about belonging and how a birthplace doesn’t necessarily define who you are. I was born in Switzerland, and went some years to school in Switzerland and some years in Florida. I left to Florida for the first time when I was 7. And now, being 34, I spent more years in North America than I have in Switzerland. I feel more connected to the American lifestyle than European. And always have, in a way. I always thought that was strange, but now, I embrace it and understand it.
I’m also so grateful for time with family. It transcends any feeling or lack of to a place. I am a piece of every member and past member of my family. And that feels special to carry.
Something that inspires me:

Thank so very much for sharing your family experience with us, your photos are just beautiful, and drawings charming.
What beauty, I don’t think I could ever leave a place like that. The pride the community takes in their property and shared spaces says a lot about the people who live there. Thanks again, oh and that lamp shade is darling!
