A Sunday playlist: Hailu Mergia & Dahlak Band
A Sunday watch: Metropolis (1927)
A week of new beginnings,
the first Sunday of June,
I take this day to rest and stimulate
my mind and my heart.

Something I’m thinking about:
I was hoping to share a thought piece yesterday, but I haven’t finished writing it yet. I started a new job this week. I took myself to the movies to see Challengers again. And I’ve been thinking about tennis matches. How one player needs the other to play, and how one provoked by another creates an exciting game. Is life a tennis match? Are my emotions playing tennis, and I am the observer? Do I need to be provoked to take action? I think about how a specific event or a situation can provoke a response in me, and how without it, I may stay stagnant. I don’t like feeling stagnant. I think about my creativity and the way I connect with the world, and how it is dependent on how I stimulate my brain. I’ll share more on this this week.
Something that inspires me:
The brilliant posters drawn and designed by Boris Bilinsky (1900-1948). Bilinsky was a costume designer, production designer, and a poster artist.
A quote:
“That Brain and Hands no longer understand each other will one day destroy the New Tower of Babel. ‘Brain and Hands need a mediator. The Mediator between Brain and Hands must be the Heart. . . .
—Thea von Harbou, author of novel ‘Metropolis’, Metropolis
