SUNDAY NOTES 024
Fairy tales and escapism, Poor Things and Victorian wallpapers, "the universe keeps nothing essential from us"
A Sunday playlist: Vintage Disney playing in a castle hall
A Sunday watch: Walking in Central Park in the Winter Snow
I wake up with worries,
quiet and still,
there is still room for hope on a Sunday.
Sketches from my day at Disneyland
Something I’m thinking about:
Poor Things and The Curse. Fairy tales and escapism. What about our present normal will be odd to us in the future? Is there really a standard to being human?
Something that inspires me:
I just watched Poor Things, so naturally, I research.
Here are art and illustrations by Alasdair Gray, Scottish author of the 1992 novel Poor Things: Episodes from the Early Life of Archibald McCandless M.D., Scottish Public Health Officer
A quote:
“Only folk whose heads are muddled by expensive educations think truth, beauty, goodness are rare private properties. Nature is more liberal. The universe keeps nothing essential from us — it is all present, all gift. God is the universe plus mind.
—Alasdair Gray, Poor Things
