A Sunday playlist: Nick Drake “Pink Moon” Album (1972)
A Sunday watch: Serendipity (2001), a comfort movie lately (in part because of the soundtrack, featuring Nick Drake and this song, another reason 2001 is a peak cinema soundtrack year, i.e. Ocean’s 11, Shrek, Princess Diaries)
A Light exists in Spring
Not present on the Year
At any other period –
When March is scarcely here
A Color stands abroad
On Solitary Fields
That Science cannot overtake
But Human Nature feels…
Emily Dickinson, ‘A Light Exists in Spring’
I shared this mini paper display I made inspired by Alice in Wonderland in this week’s newsletter.
The first day of Spring.
I’m reminded timing matters, and like nature, we don’t stay stagnant.
I want to be in alignment with the flowers, waking up from winter.
I want to listen and be attentive to what is growing; I am blooming.
In honor of spring, here are some flower-related drawings from over the years.
Something I’m thinking about:
I don’t normally watch this show but I’ve been catching up on The Bachelor. I’m thinking about connections and how we can think we feel something that we don’t. Or how we may think we don’t know how to express our feelings, when maybe we don’t give ourselves enough time in a conversation to be still. Or how one person may be having a good time while the other might not feel the same way, even if they say so.
Something that inspires me:
Oskar Schlemmer’s sculptures and ballet costumes
Oskar Schlemmer (1888-1943) was a German painter, sculptor, designer and choreographer associated with the Bauhaus school.
Schlemmer and the Bauhaus influence lived on to inspire incredibly influential artists and designers.
Triadic Ballet by Oskar Schlemmer, first created in 1912. With the ballet later touring, it helped spread the Bauhaus doctrine [Bauhaus was a German art school that combined crafts and the fine arts, operating from 1919 to 1933. It became famous for its approach to architecture and design, unifying artistic vision with mass production].
A quote:
“To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.
—Audrey Hepburn
I believe in tomorrow.
